Words: Hip-hop & Poetry Showcase Every Third Saturday of the Month 10:00pm, $13, $10 with Student ID

This event is a poetry slam style competition at which artists read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously randomly selected members of the audience and qualified judges. This event will showcase the impact of poetry in Latin American culture with performances by Fraternities like La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. and Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. and Sororities like Sigma Lambda Upsilon/ Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. Corazones Unidos Siempre, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. and The Radiant Sisters of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. we also have special guest poets performing. All are welcome to attend the “PALABRAS. POWER. PUNTO” event. “PALABRAS. POWER. PUNTO” is an event that brings poetry to life, offering viewers a rare chance to see spoken word performances from familiar faces and well known collegiate poets. Whether a casual supporter of spoken word or a hardcore junkie, one can relate to the messages of the poets. The topics will vary from the influence of single words on groups of people, the struggle individuals face with the perception of power and finally, a chance for the poets to express themselves and their individual roles in the world we would like to call our own. The event will also feature special thanks and a moment to reflect on the memory of Piri Thomas, author and poet who shed light on the struggles of nuestra gente with his book, Down These Mean Streets. Throughout his life, he soulfully delivered an array of awe inspiring poetry and always ending it with a powerful word, PUNTO. $10 cover
