What do you get when you have five close friends from NYC brought together by their goals, attitude, and determination to do something positive? You get O.I.S.D. aka Operation Industry Shut Down aka The Movement To Move With. Founded by J. Monopoly (Age 21 Hollis Queens) and E.Y.E. Q (22 Bed Stuy, Brooklyn) while attending Long Island City High School, the group also includes emcees J.O. (21, Sunnyside, Queens), Khid 2che & Showtyme (both 20, QueensBridge, NY). "As friends, we all share the same love and passion for music, and while everyone may complain we felt it was up to us to create the kind of music we'd like to hear on the radio" states J Monopoly. "Not everybody wants to hear the same thing, so we want to offer an alternative and also change the way people listen to music. We wanted to go against the grain. That's how the name came about"
Fast forward to a few years later, O.I.S.D. is establishing a name for themselves on NYC's underground hip hop scene, ripping up shows at venues/open mic showcases such as Public Assembly, Crash Mansion, Brown Bag Thursdays, End Of The Weak, Bowery Poetry Club, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, amongst others. Their high energy live performances have made them a highly sought after group at places such as Monthly Bondfire (every last tuesday at the Bowery Poetry Club) Their music, reminiscent of golden era hip hop mixed with their own personal life experiences has won them much acclaim amongst their peers. "We want to revive the good feeling that you used to get from listening to hip hop and music in general" says group co-Founder/Brooklyn emcee E.Y.E.Q "We exhibit that with our live performance and our music."
Having performed alongside the likes of Poison Pen, Mickey Factz, Homeboy Sandman, Hasan Salaam, Rugged N Raw, Brown Bag All Stars and a slew of others, these young brothers are looking to revolutionize hip hop music. With their appropriately titled debut LP "Leaders Of The True School", they are well on their way to doing just that.
